The Original Chelsea
Built based on our Original Rain Boot, this Chelsea Boot is made from natural, vegan rubber. So you can step out in style safe in the knowledge that you're wearing a sustainable boot.
Each piece of the Chelsea Boot has been lovingly hand-assembled to guarantee quality and comfort. We start by perfecting the durable and high-grip sole of the Chelsea Boot to ensure you have maximum stability whether you're walking across a muddy field, wet pavement, or even on a night out on the town.
The Orignal Chelsea Boot features an elasticated gusset on the side and a pull tab on the ankle to make getting them on and off a smooth and simple procedure. We finish our Chelsea Boot off with the Hunter red box logo. The Chelsea Boot has never looked so iconic.
Like all Hunter boots, our Chelsea Boot is fully waterproof. We use our patented waterproofing technique to ensure a boot that keeps your feet dry. This vulcanising technique for waterproofing boots dates all the way back to the inception of the original Hunter rain boot in 1956.
The Chelsea Boot is perfect for the wettest of weather but also lightweight enough that it can be worn throughout summer, ideal for a summer festival to arm you for unpredictable weather. The Origin of the Chelsea Boot
The Chelsea Boot has been around since the Victorian Age but back then people referred to them as elastic ankle boots. But it wasn't until the late 50s and swinging 60s that the boot adopted its Chelsea moniker and became the icon it is today. Chelsea's King's Road was a wash with the elastic ankle boots when they boomed in popularity after British megastars The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were seen in them. The Chelsea Boot worked perfectly with the fashion of tight trousers and skinny ties.
Much of the popularity of the Chelsea Boot lay in its versatility. It wasn't just wannabe Johns, Pauls, Georges and Ringos that could pull them off. Model Jean Shrimpton was often photographed in a Chelsea Boot which sparked their popularity amongst women as well as men. The Chelsea Boot was a modern and edgy look for women to team with the other biggest craze of the era - the miniskirt.
